what is your opinion of him? i hate him for this reason
Say you practiced everyday playing guitar learning all the techniques and to be a real good player. You train real hard and then someone comes along and just rips you because youre good and you play fast. Thats jonny marr.
He thinks that plain guitar chords that just back the singer is the best and only type of music, obviously not!

Firstly, you used the word plain for which you should be shot and some of his riffs were imo excellent.

Secondly it doesn't matter how good a player you are there are thousands upon thousands of really good guitarists in this world, it's originality that counts and I can't think of many guitarists with an original sound as him from that period. There were barely any good guitarists in the eighties full stop.

Have you ever seen any Smiths tab? The chord shapes and progressions are mad as fuck!

The man is a true genius, a great musician rather than just a great guitarist - man, did those Smiths cats know what they were doing

However Kurt's Ghost, I accept the presumably flippant nature in which your first post was written and so I'll end this now before I get too carried away

Dont get me wrong. Im not saying he's not a good player. Plus I like the smiths, but i was talking more about his attitude towards most guitar players.
And i reckon the difficulty of his work varies on what your chord vocabulary is.

Ooh, how terribly bitchy - well, it's not so much the chords he uses, rather the mad voicings he has a penchant for using - to quote the man himself, his aim was to be "like Phil Spector with a guitar", building a wall of sound where every instrument was, well, a guitar

I didnt mean to cause any rawkus!!
yeh i know the stuff he plays is dead intricate, but i dont find them too difficult cos they were the type of songs i would play when first playing. i would find something that most people could play with out any hassle impossible. I wasnt ripping into his talent i know he is dead good at what he does.
The point of the argument was that his attitude towards most guitar players isnt a good one, not how good a player he is, cos he rocks his axe.
